Carol was in her early 30s with young children when she first started using art as an outlet for her emotions. “I wanted to find a way of expressing myself, and in expressing yourself you find yourself,” she says. “You can ignore what you see, but your self is always in it.” Twenty years later, after selling her successful software design business, she returned to her art and found that the image she had originally created for herself, the nurturing breast, was still a large part of who she was. “People who nurture other people, that’s a very important part of society, and we tend to ignore that.” Now at 65, she’s still creating variations on that theme, a reflection of both herself and womankind. “I want people to feel free to expose their true self, to be human, to be comfortable with bad and good of their humanness.” See her work at Gallery 115 through Oct. 31.
