Okay I confess! I *hate* this part. Whether it's for MySpace or Tribe or worse- a job interview, the open-ended request to talk about myself is painful - like a needle to the eye. Or like a 103 foot drop on a roller coaster. My advice: Read my blogs! You'll get to know me that way...eventually.... ...

Obama Nation?

Tuesday, April, 1, 2008

Last week I was at War Memorial to hear Barack Obama speak. Sure, I was curious about the swooning, fainting groupies that have been reported. But more importantly it was a historic moment for me – the first time I’d seen a presidential candidate addressing constituency in person. And it’s great to feel Greensboro alive with new energy!

Well it turns out no one keeled over in Obama’s presence but one woman did scream, “I love you Obama” to which he replied, “I love you back.”

What’s all the love about? I decided to ask women of varying ages. Beyond the silly reports of women acting like they’ve seen a rock star, you’ll see they have some real things to say. Here are their responses:

Women in their early 20’s:

“PASSION! And presence. There’s something about Obama that speaks to me on an intuitive level.”

“I represent two minorities: Female and black. I want to be a part of change, a part of the voices that will be heard. I feel Obama listens.”

Women in their early 40’s:

“Obama is more representative of the multiethnic, multicultural America I know. He’s well-traveled and well-educated. He is much more in touch with Americans.”

“Sometimes God blesses us with people who transcend the rigidity of categorizing people. It’s almost divine.”

Women in their late 50’s/early 60’s:

“Obama displays the America I believe in. One where all cultures can live together harmoniously.”

This next quote’s from my mom –-yep, my mama loves Obama! It was first printed in the News & Record on March 29th. (But don’t go looking for the letter online. For some reason it wasn’t posted on news-record.com.)

“Senator Obama is an eloquent candidate with vision and a solution for all Americans, regardless of their color or ethnic background.”She later adds, “Please America, wake up before it’s too late and elect a man who will represent the best that is in all of us.”

Yep- she’s a firecracker. Hopefully I’ve picked up some of her spark.

So what do you think? Can you see the United States as Obama Nation? Would women’s lives and rights improve? Or would it be – as others have intimated – an obamanation?

Interesting comments, thanks for the research! I must admit, I still haven't decided who to support of the two Democratic front-runners. But I'm excited to have an election year in which we have strong leaders to choose from, regardless of which candidate you support. It seems like the primary process has really invigorated voters, and that's always a good thing. Nora

Nicely put! Thank you Faunfin for keeping us alert and ready. I think your Mom is right.....But I must say that McCain is a strong candidate as well. My sister is working behind the scenes on his campaign and I know from her mouth he is a man of integrity and purpose. www.JohnMcCain.com -Nicole Gabrielle
