I'm a thirty-something working mom to the cutest little boy on earth, a child bride who just celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary, a TV addict, a bargain huntress, a lover of food, especially ice cream, and a self-professed word nerd. Being an editor with skirt! is something of a dream come true ...

May is almost here!

Tuesday, April, 22, 2008
Our May issue just went to the printer yesterday and I’m so excited about it! The theme is Women of the World, and I’m really proud of the way it came together. We have some amazing women in this town, that’s for sure! I have never been the type of person who could drop everything and run off to another country, but I admire those who can. I’m too much of a planner, I guess. But now that I have a child, I want him to see the world and know that there’s so much beyond North Carolina, beyond the United States. I want him to see how big our world truly is. My husband wants to sell our house and sail around the world. Hmm, blogging by laptop from the middle of the ocean? Not a bad idea.

Nora, you are such a great mom! My mother encouraged the part of me that was interested in other cultures and loved to adventure and explore. In fact, I even think she was largely responsible for the person I became by taking me Israeli folk dancing when I was young and teaching me the ills of prejudice. She also made sure I had experiences like skiing and camping and that which would expand the bounds of my day-to-day reality. I am very grateful to my mother for this. Just last year I was able to travel to Israel with the Yuval Ron Ensemble. They are a Middle Eastern music group based in Los Angeles that plays Jewish mystical, Islamic Sufi, and Christian Armenian music all in the same concert! This is very unusual, even unprecedented. We were on a peace through music mission and I blogged live from Israel! You can still read the blog at: http://blog.news-record.com/desertdiary I didn't have the opportunity to blog about every experience in Israel (which required Internet access) but I still have my journal! Maybe some of my stories have been waiting for a skirt! blog! ;) Thanks again Nora!
