Catherine McDuffie – Warrior for Children

“I think it all starts with one experience going abroad; it kind of opens you up to wanting to know more about the world.” For Catherine, that experience started in high school when she was an exchange student to Denmark. Now a sophomore at UNCG, she’s a sociology major with a concentration in global social problems and president/co-founder of a Schools for Schools chapter of Invisible Children (invisiblechildren.com), in which local campuses compete to raise money for partner schools in northern Uganda. The group has also begun tutoring children in connection with African Services Coalition, which helps displaced families. Catherine is considering joining the Peace Corps after college and eventually wants to work for a nonprofit, possibly Invisible Children. “I was just really inspired by some of the stuff I saw about them, and the more I became involved the more I wanted to learn and to be involved.”
