Carol has always been intrigued by Asian culture—even as a child she kept her grandmother’s Buddha incense burner in her room. She began collecting kimonos in college, a habit that has now become her signature. A former textile designer, Carol was traveling frequently to Asia 10 years ago when she decided to launch Red Egg, a High Point company that manufactures Asian-themed accent pieces. “I’m still inspired by textiles in terms of the colors that I choose,” she says. “I’ll do a color palette that’s based on fashion, which you’re not seeing in the typical furniture industry, which is why these pieces make good accent pieces. It’s that one special piece that makes the room pop.” Until recently she traveled to Asia about five times a year looking for new ideas. “The ability to travel and see new things, see new cultures and experience new aesthetics is very inspiring to me.”
