Fins up!

Thursday, May, 1, 2008

I’m not ashamed to admit it. I’m a Parrothead.

To the uninitiated, that means I’m a fan of Jimmy Buffett, so much so that I took the day off Tuesday to tailgate in Charlotte before the concert. Chilly, but worth it. The last time he came to North Carolina, I was pregnant, so I needed to make up for lost time. And the hours before the show are when most of the fun happens.

So as I’m drunkenly asking strangers to name my future nephew (any thoughts? Feel free to share), a voice in the back of my mind is going, “Aren’t you too old for this? You’re not in your 20s anymore.”

The voice is right. I’m going to be 32 in two weeks. Is that too old for all-day partying? Is there an age limit on fun? The kids were safely at home with their grandparents, we had a DD, we were partying responsibly. But still, did I look the fool?

The baby-boomers who cruised past me just then silenced the voice. The crowd was made up everyone from toddlers to grandparents. Jimmy himself is 61 and still reeling in new generations of fans. There’s no age limit on fun. Thank goodness.

Cheers!
