Maypole ribbons weaving a colorful braid.
Morris capers silhouetted by sunrise.
Dancing to bring smiles to shut-in seniors.
Ah, the memories and merriment of May Day.
What will you do today to celebrate?
In pre-Christian times, this day once was considered the first day of summer. In the 19th century it became International Worker’s Day in honor of the successful push for legal establishment of an 8-hour work day.
So bring out the bells! Dance with joy! Play music! Wave a hankie! Hug a tree!
Let the life in you come out! This is the day to play!
If you need a little encouragement watch a child or let your inner child guide you.
Next summer day to play: The Solstice! June 22nd, 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the Arboretum. Remember Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream? At the Solstice you can live a waking dream of maidens, fairies, flowers, fire and beautiful flying things.
Will I see you there?
