You won’t catch Shalini with an acoustic guitar. For her, it’s electric all the way. The singer, songwriter and bass player of her self-titled band describes her music as having elements of imagination and defiance, a little like Shalini herself. As a child she was inspired by the cartoon Josie and the Pussycats, a dream she feels she’s achieved to some degree. Her latest CD, “The Surface and the Shine,” has been a critical success, but lately she’s focusing her energy on a new challenge – the Revolve Film and Music festival (revolvefestival.com). “There’s no film festival with the kind of programming I want with the music element like this in the state,” the former film student says. The festival will pair music-themed movies with live performances for a weeklong event in early August. Still, she has no plans to stop performing. “To perform consistently does something to you. It just changes your life.”
