About Me

I'm an almost 26-year-old writer, editor, freelancer and artist. I have a degree in journalism, and am currently working as a full-time writer, freelancer and ad rep, while also trying to make time for art and creative writing on the side. My other passion is running ... my goal is to run a full marathon in 2010. I also love to travel, but because of the lack of funds currently in my bank account I don't do it nearly enough. I love tattoos but I'm waiting to reach a milestone in my life before getting a new one. I love life, love work and I love to work hard and stay busy. I'm unbelievably excited for the future and the good things to come.

The Adventures of Augie March, day 2

Ok, so it's day four of my "26 books for my 26th Birthday challenge" and I'm reading "The Adventures of Augie March" by Saul Bellow.

I didn't get very far last night, just the first chapter actually, because of this terrible head cold I've got. Makes it near impossible to do anything.

But so far, so good.

It's written with a very unique style, and I like it. It's set in Chicago and it sort of reminds me of my grandpa, which is nice, because I miss him.

I finished "Her Fearful Symmetry" this morning while on the bike at the gym.

I'm not usually one of those people that reads while working out, but in the name of time-saving and this challenge, I decided to break my own rule.

First of all, I must start by saying that this book was NOTHING like Audrey Niffeneger's (author of Her Fearful Symmetry) masterpiece "The Time Traveler's Wife," but it was still entertaining.

I read it in about 12 hours (mostly my whole day Sunday) - it's about 400+ pages I think. What can I say, I'm a nerd.

Last night I finished "Scat" by Carl Hiaasen.

It was GREAT.

Seriously if you have kids, want kids or are a teacher or do anything where you work with kids, read this book because you will love it. Of course if you work with or have kids you may have already read his other books "Hoot" and "Flushed," which I hear are also amazing, but seriously, read "Scat," it's a great story.

After I saw the movie, "Julie and Julia" I realized that I really needed to get my shit in order and start making some priorities and goals that I could stick to.

Since then I landed what may turn out to be my dream job, a kick ass freelance gig, and a brilliant idea for a new Web site which I hope to have up and running in a few days.

But, because I like to be busy, and at this particular point in my life I really need to just focus on making me a happier, better person I decided to challenge myself.

The war on women continues ....

If our government, local and federal, put as much energy into fixing healthcare and the economy as they do trying to micromanage the lives of its citizens, we would see democracy at work and wouldn’t have to report on such crap things as this:

TIME magazine did an article about women being abused in the military. It came about as part of a discussion on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, since in the military, the policy for reporting sexual misconduct also seems to be, “just don’t tell.”

I am most proud of: following my own path in life. During high school and college my family questioned every decision I made regarding my major, my relationships, everything ... but despite their concerns I've stuck to my guns and followed my own dreams and done things my way, and I'm so glad I have.

I am most guilty of: wanting to spend money when I haven't a cent to spare.

I can't live without: books, newspapers (online or otherwise), pen, paper, my cell phone and my laptop (sad, but true._

The world would be a better place, if only: People would accept each others' differences. You don't have to agree, but you have to be open to agree to disagree and educate yourself outside your comfort zones.

I loooove books.
